Character creation
The first scene is your flight onto a slave ship…being pursued and attacked. We’ll start off with Cole’s write-in question…

Why can Rogues use Maces but not Axes? What’s so sneaky about hammers but not about edged blades of death?

Well, this is likely more game mechanics than anything. They need to split up which weapons can be used by what classes evenly, or you get a severe loot imbalance. If you want to justify it in-character, maces are really, really good at stopping your opponent, rendering them unable to fight back, or fight ever again. A cut leaves a scar, a shattered bone leaves a cripple.

The Mace Spec that everyone hated so much in PvP? That’s pretty much how it goes with maces in real life. You thonk someone on the head, and they’re out of it. I could see a Rogue playing dirty like that. Coming up from behind, cracking someone over the head, then swinging low and shattering the next guy’s kneecap.wow powerleveling

Why can’t they use axes? Probably no compelling reason besides game balance, though I’m sure they would be harder to use in a Rogue-y fashion than swords, daggers or hammers. Axes are probably the most unforgiving of all of the bladed weapons. You want a hard swing, not so much an elegant stroke, a well-placed shiv, or a busted joint. Axes tend to be more about being heavy and using momentum to cut, rather than sharp edges. Not always, but that’s their tendency. Maybe they weren’t graceful enough to make the cut*? Who knows.

Why did they retcon the Draenei lore from WCIII to WoW BC? What was wrong with the original lore (ugly, thin, primitive Draenei).

I’m pretty sure the biggest reason for it is that they had a cool idea and they rolled with it. There was no conspiracy or plot, or anything like that. I kind of have to agree with it, too. As much as I dislike retcons, I think this one worked out for the better. I loves me some Draenei.

Even if they used the old Draenei, the Lost Ones, they would need to do some storytelling anyway. We knew very little about them, or how they became shriveled little beasts. I don’t think this retcon was a terrible one, since they wove the ‘new’ Draenei with the ‘old’ Draenei rather well, with Akama being a nice focal point for that. The only issue is the “Which came first, Sargeras or the Eredar?” thing. Chris Metzen himself said, in different words, ‘We had an idea, we liked it, we went with it and mixed some stuff up on the way. We like this better though, so that’s how it’ll be.’

Who are those Draenei acolytes all around Auchindoun? Why are they hostile, aren’t Draenei supposed to be ‘good guys’?

Every races has its oddities. Think of the Auchindoun Acolytes as a cult, similar to how Lordaeron had the Cult of the Damned. You cannot possibly have a large civilization without having people who are eccentric, people who go against the grain, have different beliefs. Auchindoun is the perfect environment to birth that sort of situation, considering there have been multiple massive wars there, the territory has changed hands multiple times, the Burning Legion’s involvement, and the whole D’ore soul-sucking bit. Just because the player race Draenei are ‘good guys’ doesn’t mean their species lacks diversity.

I would call the Humans (of Stormwind) ‘good guys’ (though many will disagree) when they’re not being used and manipulated by the Black Dragonflight (though even through that, they generally fight for what’s ‘right’), but you still get the Defias and such.

What’s Medivh up to these days? I haven’t heard much about him since WCIII. He wasn’t even mentioned in the expansion.

Well, he’s certainly in The Burning Crusade, though his ‘present’ self isn’t. Nobody knows what he’s doing right now, in the present day, or even if he’s still alive. He’s probably vacationing on a beach somewhere, sick of that Guardian crap.

I’m a troll arcane mage. As I know trolls hate arcane for 10K years, know that it corrupts and think of it as of a big no-no. While being frost/fire mage is more or less OK for a troll, it is kinda elemental I feel that shamies in Orgrimmar would banish me if they knew I’m arcane, any ideas?

I haven’t seen or read anything about Trolls being against the Arcane. Do you have a source? Maybe there’s quest dialogue somewhere that I missed, but as far as I know the Trolls don’t actively have anything against the Arcane. I see that in the early Troll quests it mentions they believe that magic has the power to corrupt, but that’s not exclusive to Trolls. I think almost everyone in Azeroth believes that, including the Kirin Tor of Dalaran.

They’re on another portal world, supposedly. Neither Draenor nor Azeroth. They were originally going to be in The Burning Crusade, but squeezing in another world didn’t fit the pace of the expansion, from what I understand.

Those doors are the back of the Deadmines. That’s the way Van Cleef and the crew were going to get their brand new ship out of there. Through those doors, down the river, then up to Stormwind to lay siege.

Healing Debuffs

Healing effectiveness debuffs (similar in design to DAOC’s disease effect) are abilities that reduce the effectiveness of heals on a target for a short duration. As of beta 3.3, there was no way to cure these healing effectiveness debuffs if you became afflicted with one - you had to ride it out. And with incoming heals being halved (or worse) in effectiveness, it generally indicates a dirt nap is in your immediate future. But who has the advantage: Order or Destruction? warhammer

Chosen:
-25% aura on Discordant Turbulence. 30 foot AE ability.

Marauder:
-25% on Tainted Claw (increases to -75% with Deadly Clutch tactic.)

Zealot:
-50% PBAE on Windblock (level 4 morale.)

Disciple:
-100% on any crit with Curse of Khaine tactic. warhammer powerlevel

Witch Elf:
-50% on Black Lotus Blade.
Chance to proc -75% healing done with Path of Suffering abilities on Healer’s Bane tactic.

- Destruction has access to the Chosen’s AE healing debuff, Discordant Turbulence, the only AE healing debuff in the game that is from an AP ability.
- The Marauder’s Tainted Claw is the only baseline healing debuff in the game - everyone else must obtain these abilities from mastery paths.
- The Marauder’s Tainted Claw can also be augmented up to a whopping -75% with the tactic Deadly Clutch, which is more than any other on-demand healing debuff in the game.
- The Witch Elf could potentially have access to both of their healing debuff abilities, depending on mastery choices. Note that the Witch Elf’s Healer’s Bane tactic reduces the damage that they heal for, not the amount that they can be healed for. warhammer powerleveling

Destruction Cons
- Destruction has only 6 classes with healing debuffs, which is less than Order.
- Of these 6, 4 of which have access to “on-demand” healing debuff abilities.
- However, of those 4, the Zealot’s Windblock is a level 4 morale ability, which makes it of very questionable usefulness.
- Destruction has only one healing debuff that can be applied from long range, the Squig Herder’s Rotten Arrer.

Order Pros
- Order has 7 classes with healing debuffs, which is one more than Destruction.
- Of these 7, a whopping 6 have “on-demand” healing debuff abilities.
- 4 Order classes can apply their healing debuffs from range, 3 of which can do so “on-demand”. Order is far superior to Destruction in this department.
- The Witch Hunter’s Excommunicate not only blocks 100% of healing, but also lasts an incredibly brutal 15 seconds. warhammer power leveling

Order Cons
- Order has no AE healing debuff.
- The Warrior Priest’s Absence of Faith only debuffs a meager 25%.
- The Shadow Warrior’s Fell the Weak has a short 5 second duration.
- The White Lion’s Thin the Herd debuffs the healing done by the target, not the healing done on the target. This certainly has a unique use, but it could be less desirable than a standard healing debuff in many situations as well.

Who wins the healing effectiveness debuff war? Tough to say. I think I would personally give the edge to Order, but Destruction’s tools could be perfect for a well-built group. warhammer gold

We might have had more news today — if Blizzard’s beta servers could stay online for more than five minutes consecutively. We’ve been staring a lot at the “World Server Down” message since Blizzard rolled out patch 8905 late last night (or early this morning, depending on how you look at these things). Let’s start today off with more on Inscription. A new beta patch went up last night with a few changes, including….wow power leveling

“Pomaces” have been renamed “Pigments” and have shiny new icons that look less like dust (they were various colors of enchanting dust icons) and look more like… well, I suppose, pigments.You can judge for yourself what you think they look most like.wow powerleveling

The Glyph cooldown has been changed. Though applying a Glyph still starts an hour cooldown, the cooldown is only for that Glyph, specifically. So if, for example, my Paladin applies Glyph of Blessing of Wisdom, I cannot apply Glyph of Blessing of Wisdom again for an hour. However, I could instantly swap six healing Glyphs for six tanking Glyphs — I’d just have to wait to switch back to my original healing Glyphs. (And, of course, I’d have to have a new set of healing Glyphs to swap to, as removing them to put in tank-oriented Glyphs would destroy them.) wow power level
And, though apparently not new, several people in the comments noted that a Glyph can be removed by shift right-clicking — however, this still destroys the Glyph in the process.wow Gold

It looks like Blizzard isn’t done tinkering with everything for Wrath of the Lich King. This time, they’ve turned their attention to racial abilities, which many have pointed out to be imbalanced. Kalgan dropped by the forums to answer a good question regarding the Orc racial Hardiness, which grants a passive 15% resistance to stuns. wow power leveling It’s been nerfed a long way from its original 25% resistance, but the poster made a good point about the game’s direction towards reduced durations instead of resistances.world of warcraft power leveling

Kalgan responds by saying that Hardiness was being changed into exactly that — an effect duration reduction of 15%.wow powerleveling He also goes over all the other racials, some of which were changed, others of which were buffed, and yet a few others of which were inevitably nerfed. Last night’s beta push, 8905, introduced another change to Misery. The former 5 point talent has gone through a number of changes already, and the latest one seems to be an attempt at healing the wounds of its previous nerf.wow power leveling

As of 8905, Misery now supplies its 3% spell hit as well as a 15% damage increase on Mind Flay, Mind Sear, and Mind Blast. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, and just how much a difference that makes. The original version of Misery was 5% spell damage across the entire raid, including your personal damage. Mind Blast and Mind Flay are definitely huge sources of a Shadow Priest’s damage, but it’s less than half of the spells used in our damage ‘rotation.’ world of warcraft power leveling

Will 15% more damage on those spells make up for the loss of 5% damage on all spells, as far as your personal damage is concerned? It’s certainly possible, probably even likely. While the damage from Shadow Word: Pain and Shadow Word: Death (especially Pain) shouldn’t be underestimated, Blast and Flay are definitely the major players here. Plus we have news that Mind Flay’s coefficient is going up and gaining the ability to crit soon, so an extra 15% on that spell will scale very, very well.wow powerlevel

Now that Naxxramas has opened up on the beta realms, we should start seeing some numbers and math soon. However, the new Mind Flay isn’t implemented yet, so how this scale may completely change when that happens. At the very least, the bare minimum, this is an improvement over what they did to it originally. How much of an improvement remains to be seen.wow Gold
